How to choose a tattoo studio in Batumi: a checklist

A tattoo stays with you for life, so the choice of studio deserves more attention than the choice of a restaurant for tonight. Batumi has many tattoo studios, and from the outside they can look alike. Here is what actually matters, and what should make you walk away.

1. The portfolio matches what you want

Start with the work, not the price. Look through the studio's Instagram and website and ask yourself:

  • Are the lines clean and confident, with no wobbles, blowouts or uneven thickness?
  • Is the shading smooth, are the blacks solid?
  • Does the studio do the style you want? A great realism artist is not automatically the right person for delicate fine line, and vice versa.
  • Are there healed tattoos, not only fresh ones with filters?

If you are not sure what style your idea belongs to, our tattoo styles guide will help.

2. Experience of the artists

Ask how long the artists have been tattooing and what they specialise in. Experience shows in the details: how the design sits on the body, how the artist works with difficult areas, how the tattoo heals. At LUX INK each artist has more than five years of experience.

3. Hygiene and sterilization are non-negotiable

This is the most important point, and you have every right to ask about it directly. A professional studio:

  • uses single-use needles and cartridges, opened in front of you;
  • works in disposable gloves, changing them when needed;
  • covers the machine, cables and surfaces with barrier film;
  • uses single-use ink caps and materials wherever applicable;
  • properly sterilizes all reusable equipment;
  • keeps the workspace clean and tidy.

If the studio avoids questions about sterilization, leave.

4. A consultation and an individual design

A good studio asks questions before it picks up the machine: what the tattoo means to you, where it will be placed, how big it should be. It then prepares a design for you and adjusts it to your anatomy.

Be careful with studios that simply copy someone else's tattoo from the internet. Your tattoo should be yours: that is the whole point.

5. Honest advice, even when it is not what you want to hear

A professional will tell you if a design is too small to hold its detail, if a placement will distort it, or if fine lines will not age well at that size. This honesty is a sign of respect for you and for the work.

6. Atmosphere and comfort

A session can last several hours. A calm, clean, comfortable space makes a real difference: you relax, the artist works without distractions, and the whole experience feels like something you will remember with pleasure. Take a look inside our studio.

7. Clear communication

You should get clear answers about the design, the timing, how to prepare and how to care for the tattoo afterwards. A studio that explains aftercare in detail cares about the result, not only about the session. Here is our preparation checklist and our aftercare guide.

8. Reviews and reputation

Read reviews on Google Maps and Instagram, look at tagged photos from clients, ask friends. Real healed photos from clients are worth more than any advertising.

Red flags

  • The price is suspiciously low, and the studio rushes you to book.
  • No questions about your health, allergies or skin.
  • Needles are not opened in front of you.
  • Dirty surfaces, no barrier film, reused materials.
  • No portfolio in your style, or only heavily filtered photos.
  • The artist agrees to everything and gives no advice.
  • Pressure to get tattooed "right now", without a design.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know a tattoo studio is safe?

Needles and cartridges should be single-use and opened in front of you, the artist should work in disposable gloves, and surfaces should be covered with barrier film. Ask about sterilization directly.

What should I look for in a tattoo artist's portfolio?

Clean, confident lines, smooth shading, solid blacks, work in the style you want and photos of healed tattoos, not only fresh ones.

Is a cheap tattoo a red flag?

A suspiciously low price combined with pressure to book immediately, no questions about your health and no individual design are warning signs.

Do good tattoo studios copy designs from the internet?

No. A professional studio uses references as inspiration and creates an individual design adapted to your idea and anatomy.
